After losing three early wickets, Kent’s batters found it difficult to keep up with the required scoring rate and could only reach 161/7 in their reply. Former Sussex batsman Harry Finch scored 47 and all-rounder Jarred Lysaught 39 not out.

Surrey’s South African fast bowler Conor McKerr reduced Kent to 44/3 with figures of 3 for 13 in two overs and finished with 4 for 20 in his side’s victory.

A partnership of 133 from 77 deliveries for the second wicket by Ben Geddes (73) and the experienced Mark Stoneman (63) put Surrey into a strong position, but they then lost seven wickets for 43 runs with Podmore conceding 37 runs from his four wickets and former Cheshire paceman Bailey Wight an taking 3 for 27.

Kent Second XI have another South Group T20 match on Monday when they play Sussex at Polo Farm. They complete their T20 campaign with three matches at The County Ground, Beckenham this week.
