Seconds defeated in Championship return

After a month without any Second XI cricket, Kent got back into action with a Championship match against Hampshire at Three Hills Sports Park, Folkestone.

They lost by eight wickets, the visitors winning with a day to spare.

Kent’s Seconds were dismissed for 196 and 203 in both their innings. Hampshire, who scored 299 in their first innings, were left with just 101 runs to get, which they achieved comfortably.

Harry Finch top scored with 69, including eight fours, in Kent’s first innings.

Tom Scriven took 3 for 46, and the all-rounder then hit 83, with six boundaries and a six, and Charlie Mumford scored 53 as Hampshire built a first innings lead of 103.

Harry Podmore, who captained the Kent side, took 4 for 59, and Hamid Qadri 4 for 44.

Tawanda Muyeye, with an innings of 41 including seven fours, was the best Kent batsman in their second innings. Kamron Khanna took 3 for 14 for Hampshire in 5.4 overs.

Fletcher Middleton 54 not out, and Felix Organ 28 not out, saw Hampshire to their victory, with an unbeaten 55 run, third wicket partnership.

Kent Second XI’s next match starts on August Bank Holiday Monday next week, when they play Surrey in a Championship fixture at Polo Farm, Canterbury.

COVID-restrictions for these matches have now been lifted and members and supporters can gain free entry.
