Selman 151 and 50s from Blake, Qayyum and Smith put 2nd XI on top

A unbeaten 151 by Nick Selman and half-centuries from Alex Blake, Dan Smith and Imran Qayyum gave Kent's second XI a great start against the MCC Young Cricketers at High Wycombe.

Kent posted 479 for eight declared after recovering from 55 for three to reach an imposing total on day one of the three-day 2nd XI Championship match.

The MCC YC made early in-roads with the new ball before Brendan Nash (45) and Alex Blake (68) steadied the ship with a 82-run stand for the fourth wicket.

The best was yet to come as Nick Selman came to the crease and shepherded a wagging tail, hitting 151 not out including 22 boundaries and a six.

The Brisbane-born batsman, who plays for Tunbridge Wells, amassed 137 runs with Canterbury CC's Dan Smith (69) for the eight wicket and an unbroken ninth-wicket stand of 121 with Imran Qayyum (68 not out off 59 balls).

The hosts were 13 without loss in reply.
