Welcome, everyone, back to the St Lawrence Ground for the final time this 2026 season. I’d also like to extend a welcome to the players, staff, coaches and supporters of Gloucestershire for what should be an exciting finish to the Summer.
We of course head into this match with the slightest of advantages in our chase for promotion. That being said, a four-point lead can quickly disappear and that’s why first-class cricket is still the pinnacle of the county game – ups and downs can happen throughout all four days of the match and we need to make sure that we’re on top when all is said and done.
The coaches & I have given the players everything they need to be successful this week – they have trained hard and with purpose, and we have given them insights and plans heading into the match, but it’s down to them to get us over the line and into Division One.
I expect the very best from the XI selected for this match, to get the rewards for their performances across this whole season.
Taking a step back and looking at this season, I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s pleased with how much we have pushed on as a team compared to where we were at this point last Summer.
We should be proud of our turnaround in fortunes, and that’s down to everyone at the Club, on and off the field, who’ve created an environment where we’ve been able to improve vastly since the disappointments of last year.
You are all part of that team as Kent Members and supporters.
