I’d like to welcome everyone back to the St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury across these final two weeks of the season, and this week, the players, coaches, staff and supporters of Lancashire.
Last week’s result was an extremely tough pill for us to swallow. We know where things didn’t work out for us, and this week we’ll have the opportunity to put things right at home.
When I first joined this Club, I said that ‘Hollywood was littered about underdog stories, and that we should let them make some movies about us’.
Whilst we still have a lot of control over our destiny in the promotion race, its results like last week that brings a line from Hollywood to the front of my mind: “It ain’t how hard you can hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward”. Our response to last week’s disappointment will be how we shape the outcome of both this match and next week’s finale against Gloucestershire.
We have the quality in this squad to get the results we need. It’s up to the players to get us over the line, and all of them will be doing their absolute best to get us where we need to be.
We have performed extremely well across this season, by far an improvement on last year. All I ask is for that mentality, and the learnings we’ve had along the way this year, to bear fruit when we need it most.
