Kent County Cricket Club confirmed today that Simon Cook has extended his contract with the Club.

Cook first signed to Kent from Middlesex in 2004, making his debut during the 2005 season. Since his arrival at the St Lawrence Ground, right-arm seam bowler, Cookhas become one of the Club’s most reliable performers with his nagging accuracy.

Noted as one of the most consistent bowlers on the county circuit, Cook’s return of over 340 first class wickets shows he is an invaluable commodity. In the shorter form of the game he has excelled – playing a major role in the Spitfires’ 2007 t20 success when his tight middle-over bowling, and knack of taking crucial wickets at regular intervals helped Rob Key’s men to glory.

With 229 List A and 81 t20 wickets to his name, Cook continues to prove his worth as a dangerous bowler in one-day cricket. He also has good ability with the bat, often providing valuable runs down the order; something which was evidentduring the 2011season when he made 51, in the LV=County Championship fixture against Middlesex, batting at eleven. Cook’s experience will be crucial in helping Kent’s young bowlers continue to develop.

Chairman of Cricket, Graham Johnson commented on the news; “I am delighted that Simon has extended his contract with the Club. He has always shown a highly professional approach to his playing career; he also makes a considerable contribution off the field which, at times, can be just as important.

"I know Simon was disappointed with the impact that somewhat unusual injuries had on his season in 2011, and he will be keen to make the impact he has with Kent in all forms of cricket in previous seasons. This was an important decision for Simon and Kent are glad to have his considerable services going into 2012."

Simon Cook said; “I’m pleased to have extended my contract with the Club. I am looking forward to helping us start to rebuild a team which can challenge for honours again. I am sure with the players we have, we will cause a few upsetsduring the 2012 season.”
