Simon Willis: Sam Billings’ England call up great for the Academy

Thursday 11th June 2015

Men’s First Team

High performance director Simon Willis said Sam Billings' England debut is a great endorsement of the work of the Kent Cricket Academy.

The former Kent 'keeper (pictured above, centre) heads up the Academy which has nurtured players including Sam Northeast, Daniel Bell-Drummond, Matt Coles, Adam Riley, Alex Blake, Adam Ball, Ivan Thomas and Ryan Davies.

Willis said: "I know Sam will want more and be successful at that level. You learn from those experiences and keep improving.

"Our first male England player from the Academy was Joe Denly and Sam Billings is our second and we've had a number of female England players over the years.

"It just shows the good work that a lot of people in the system do throughout the year."
