South East Stars to play multiple Beckenham matches in 2022

The County Ground, Beckenham will be host to the South East Stars across both domestic regional competitions through the 2022 season.

South East Stars is one of eight Regions across the country as part of the ECB’s plan to transform women and girls’ cricket, released in October 2019. The South East Stars work in partnership with Kent Cricket and Surrey County Cricket Club.

All South East Stars matches hosted at The County Ground, Beckenham are Free Entry to all, and spaces do not have to be reserved.

The Stars will play all of their scheduled home Rachael Heyhoe Flint matches in Metropolitan Kent – the tournament is the regional game’s 50-over, one-day competition.

Sunrisers, who have Kent Women starlet Grace Scrivens in their ranks, will travel to Beckenham on Saturday 2 July, with Northern Diamonds and Central Sparks both taking on the Stars at The County Ground on the weekend of 9-11 September.

In 2021, the South East Stars lifted the Charlotte Edwards Cup – the T20 competition for the eight regional sides, and they will begin their defence of the trophy named after the Kent & England legend at Beckenham against Western Storm on Saturday 21 May.

Five Kent Women young guns have been announced as part of South East Stars’ Academy intake for 2022, with four Kent Women stars on the field as the South East Stars lifted the Charlotte Edwards Cup last September.

The County Ground, Beckenham has a proud tradition of hosting women’s cricket over the years – it first hosted Kent Women on 10 July 1949 as they faced Surrey Women – Cecilia Robinson & Doris Coysh’s 147-run opening partnership could not be matched by Surrey, with rain curtailing chances of a result.

Kent Cricket’s home in the west of the county also hosted two matches of the 1993 Women’s Cricket World Cup, including England vs. New Zealand, and has played host to multiple decisive matches across Kent Women’s multiple championship wins in their history.

South East Stars’ Regional Director of Women’s Cricket, Richard Bedbrook, said: “The South East Stars regularly use the impressive facilities at The County Ground, Beckenham and we’re pleased to confirm competitive fixtures in Metropolitan Kent for 2022.

“Beckenham is a venue steeped in the history of women’s cricket, with years of domestic women’s cricket being played at Kent Cricket’s venue, and I’m sure the South East Stars with Kent connections will enjoy playing at one of their home venues.”
