Stevens strikes as 18 wickets fall on day 2

Darren Stevens marked his 200th first class match for Kent with three wickets as 18 batsman fell on a frenetic first day of Specsavers County Championship cricket at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

Gloucestershire had no hesitation in opting to field first after an uncontested toss following four sessions lost to a wet outfield.

Heino Kuhn, Matt Henry and Harry Podmore made their Kent debuts with Grant Stewart passing a late fitness test for a place in the XI.

Matt Taylor was the pick of a fine bowling performance as the visitors bundled Kent out for 64 as the new ball swung in helpful bowling conditions.

In reply, New Zealand international Henry took two wickets with the new ball and Will Gidman, Podmore and Stewart grabbed a wicket each as Gareth Roderick top-scored with 51 as the Westcountrymen reached 110-8 at stumps.
