Monday 7th November 2022
Kent all-rounder Grant Stewart was named MVP of Italy’s triangular IT20 series against Spain & Germany at Desert Springs Cricket Ground in Almería.
Playing as an opening batter to monitor his recovery from an injury sustained at the end of the English Summer, Stewart plundered 197 runs in four T20 innings for his national side, averaging 49.25.
He surpassed his previous best twice in his first two innings of the tournament: 54 from 40 balls came in the opening match of the tournament against Germany, before a meteoric innings of 76 from only 33 deliveries, with a strike rate of 230.30 took the right-hander to his new career-best T20 score – helped along by nine sixes & two fours.
Italy recorded a victory over Spain in the final match of the competition, with Germany winning three out of four matches to top the group. Their squad included the likes of former Leicestershire bowler Dieter Klein & former Durham wicketkeeper-batter Michael Richardson.
