Surrey v Kent – Day Three – The Oval

Close of play, day three: Surrey 387 & 184, Kent 250 & 270-8

Surrey resumed their second innings on 138 for 7, and were eventually all out for 185, just over an hour into the morning session, thanks to David Balcombe, who has taken 5 for 63 in this, his debut match for Kent.

Kent were then chasing 322 for a win, but lost Joe Denly early in the second over. Rob Key (144 not out) produced a captain's performance, hitting an unbeaten century to keep Kent in the game as they closed on 270 for 8, with Key achieving the 44th one hundred of his career.

Aside from Key, Martin van Jaarsveld (35) and Alex Blake (26) were the other significant contributors, on a day which relied heavily on Key. Kent will resume day four with a fighting chance, but still have much to do.
