Team RAC race into The St Lawrence Ground

Monday 30th March 2009

Kent’s cricketers were hit for six when Team RAC drivers Colin Turkington and Stephen Jelley paid a visit to The St Lawrence Ground ahead of the opening round of the 2009 HiQ MSABritish Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday 5 April.

Turkington and Jelley met Kent’s Martin Saggers and Simon Cook as they prepare to build on a promising set of pre-season testing, culminating in tests at Rockingham and Brands Hatch.

The Team RAC duo took the team’s BMW320si to The St Lawrence Ground where the Kent players were putting their final preparations together ahead of the three day friendly with Nottinghamshire starting tomorrow, 1 April.

Colin Turkington, who was able to exchange sporting tips with Saggers and Cook said: ’It was great to meet some of the Kent players ahead of Sunday. The skills the players possess are so impressive, with great hand to eye co-ordination and intense levels of concentration.

’These are skills and attributes also needed to be a top racing driver, so it was great to see how these are applied in a different sport. It was an enjoyable day and I’ll be looking out for Kent’s progress for the season ahead.’

Martin Saggers, in his 10th season at Kent, commented: ’It was fantastic to meet Colin and Stephen and take a closer look at the Team RAC showcar. It was very interesting to hear about the preparation and demands involved in being a racing driver. I know that the people of Kent love their motorsport wth a circuit with as much history as Brands Hatch nearby. I am sure fans going to Brands on Sunday are in for a fantastic day of racing.’
