Wednesday 25th May 2011

Kent Cricket – Exclusive Screening

Kent County Cricket Club are offering an exclusive Club viewing of Steve Riley’s new cricket documentary, Fire in Babylon. The breath-taking tale of one of sport’s greatest ever teams, Fire in Babylon documents the legendary and iconic West Indies cricket team of the 1970’s and 80’s. The one-off viewing on Thursday 9 June at the St Lawrence Cricket Ground in Canterbury will be hosted by former West Indies player and Kent County Cricket Club President, John Shepherd.

Fire in Babylon is based on the turbulent era of apartheid in South Africa, the race riots in England and civil unrest in the Caribbean. The West Indies cricketers, led by the enigmatic Viv Richards, struck a wonderfully defiant blow at the forces of white prejudice worldwide. Their undisputed skill, combined with a fearless spirit, allowed them to dominate the game at the highest level, replaying it on their own terrifying terms.

Tickets for this one-off screening are limited to 200 and available to purchase for £10 per person by clicking here or by calling 01227 456 886, selecting option ‘0’. The Club’s Cornwallis bar will be open from 6.30pm, with the viewing commencing at 7.30pm prompt, followed by a question and answer session and the opportunity to purchase the documentary at a special reduced price of £12 (RRP £15.99). Tea and coffee after the viewing are included in the ticket price and a proportion of the profit from each copy of the DVD sold will be donated to Playing for Success.

Further information on this event is available on the Kent Cricket website and more details on the documentary can be found on the Fire in Babylon website
