Three Kent players named in England womenís squad for tour of India

The England women’s selectors have named a 15-strong squad to tour India from February 15 to March 9 2010. Led by Kent“s Charlotte Edwards, the squad will play five One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 matches.

Edwards is joined in the England side by her county team-mates Tammy Beaumont and Lydia Greenway (pictured).

Claire Taylor, who is taking a six month break from international cricket, is also unavailable for selection but will be resuming training in February in preparation for the ICC World Twenty20 in April.

Commenting, Kent“s Lydia Greenway said: "We enjoyed a great year in 2009 but all of our thoughts now are on what will be another challenging year in 2010. The tour to India will be a difficult one. I have been there in the past and know it is a demanding place to play cricket.

“It is challenging, both on and off the field. The fact that no squad member has ever won a series in India proves just how difficult the three weeks will be. Still, we are determined to change our losing record in India and come back with wins in both the One Day and Twenty20 series.

“If we can do that then it will set us up nicely for the ICC World Twenty20 in April and the series against New Zealand, next summer.”
