Trophy Victory for Second XI

Trophy Victory for Second XI

A convincing five wicket victory away to Sussex saw Kent’s Second XI gain their first 50-over Trophy win of the season on Easter Monday.

Winning the toss and batting first, Sussex were bundled out for 142 in 28.5 overs, with two trialists pace bowlers both making perfect Kent debuts.

Right arm quick Tristan Blackledge took an impressive 4 for 22, whilst left arm paceman James Wainman had figures of 3 for 50.

Set a victory target of 143, Kent’s innings was given momentum by a second wicket partnership of 49 in 10 overs between wicket keeper Jordan Cox and all-rounder Calum Haggett.

An unbroken sixth wicket stand between Ben Compton, 36 not out, and Justin Watson 27 not out, guided Kent home reaching 145 for 5 in 33.1 overs to seal victory, Compton hitting the winning runs with a boundary.

The Second XI are in action at the Nevill Ground, Tunbridge Wells this week with a three day championship match against Essex starting on Tuesday and the two sides meet in a Trophy fixture on Friday.
