Player Biography

After ending a 15-year association with his home county, Glamorgan, the prolific run-maker upped roots and signed a two-year contract with Kent at the end of the 2011 season and enjoyed a productive first season.

Adding much-needed stability to Kent’s middle-order, the right-hander scored 695 runs at an average of over forty; striking two centuries, with his first for his new county coming against Northamptonshire in April.

The attractive stroke-maker also passed 13,000 career First Class runs during 2012, making him one of the more prolific run-scorers on the county circuit. His golden period came in 2006 when he scored 1,327 runs in a season to become Glamorgan’s Player of the Year. His good form, which included back-to-back double centuries against Essex and Gloucestershire, put him into contention for international recognition.

However, in 2007, Mike suffered a career-threatening injury when a blood clot in his shoulder forced him to have a rib removed. The injury halted his progress but now, having enjoyed a good first season, he will look to continue his good form at the St Lawrence Ground.
