Kent League Round-Up: Drama in Week 16

There was more drama in week sixteen of the Kent Cricket League Premier Division as matters at the top and the bottom remain unresolved.

Leaders St Lawrence & Highland Court were defeated at home by third placed Hayes. The hosts were bowled out for 118 with Richard Heywood, 35 not out, and Darren Stevens with 25 scoring half of their runs. Connor Byrne returned 6 for 18. Although Olly Curtiss took an early wicket, Will Harby hit 49 and Will MacVicar 45 not out as the visitors cruised home by eight wickets.

Second placed Blackheath were also defeated when visiting Tunbridge Wells in fourth. Mason Robinson and Karanjot Singh both scored exactly 50 before the Heath were bowled out for 204. Despite Niaz Khan taking 4 for 27, Alex Williams cracked 63 before James Poulsom guided the hosts home by one wicket with just four balls remaining.

At the other end of the table Sevenoaks Vine made themselves safe at the expense of Minster who are in penultimate place in the table. James Thompson scored 51 but the Sheppey club were bowled out for 169. Former Kent fast bowler, George Garrett, took 4 for 51. Chris Vernon then guided Sevenoaks to a four wicket win with 38 not out.

Slim hopes for bottom club Lordswood of staying up were given a boost when they hammered out of form Whitstable. Linden Lockhart scored 73, Edward Taylor 53 and Calum MacLeod 40 as they rattled up 259 for 8 despite four wickets apiece for Cameron Wilshaw and Cullan Larkin. Ant Quinn then returned 5 for 25 as the coastal club were dismissed for 134. Only Justin MacVicar with 41 resisted.

In a mid-table derby, Bexley won at Bromley to leapfrog them in the table. George Haley top scored with 81 and seventeen year old Leo Selvey-Clinton scored 40 as the visitors finished on 235 for 8. Shaun Evans then returned 4 for 14 as Bromley were rolled over for 151.

Ryan Davies walloped 96 from 75 balls in Sandwich Town’s two wicket victory at Bromley Common in the Championship. Gravesend remain top having beaten Robbie Joseph’s Canterbury. Warren Lee (26) helped the leaders to a four wicket win. Elliot Hooper took 2-20 when Bickley Park strengthened their hold on second place with a ten wicket win at Folkestone.

Ben Burgess, who played for Kent Second XI earlier in the week, scored 48 not out when Chestfield won at Sevenoaks in Division One.
