Crawley and Dickson shine in T20 win

Kent’s second XI beat an experienced Essex line-up at Polo Farm in a T20.

All five Kent bowlers took two wickets and kept the scoring down as regular breakthroughs stunted the visitors’ progress.

Charlie Hartley removed opener Nick Browne and returned to dismiss tailender Matt Dixon as he took 2/19 in 3.1 overs.

Academy scholar Ollie Hills picked up two wickets with his left-arm seam and Grant Stewart dismissed opener Adam Wheater before returning to take a second scalp as Kent dismissed Essex for 117.

Adam Riley was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/16 in the middle overs and triallist Ben Manenti took 2/25.

Kent chased the target with 43 balls to spare, largely thanks to a stand of 62 by Zak Crawley who scored a 30-ball 50 and Sean Dickson.

The record-breaking right-hander, batting at 3, ended unbeaten on 46 from just 31 balls including the only three sixes of the match to seal a seven-wicket win.

A saturated outfield after heavy overnight rain prevented the first of two scheduled matches from taking place before the groundstaff’s hard work got the second game on.
