Tredwell, Billings and Riley receive England winter call-ups

Kent spinner James Tredwell has been included in England’s 16-man squad to tour Sri Lanka this winter.

The party will depart on Sunday, November 16 for a seven-match One-Day International series.

In addition, to the elite squad, Tredwell’s teammates Sam Billings and Adam Riley have been included in the England Performance Programme (EPP) squad this winter.

The 23-year-old wicketkeeper from Pembury and the 22-year-old spinner from Sidcup are included in a 19-player squad at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University in October.

Kent head coach Jimmy Adams said: “The lads have worked hard, they deserve their opportunity and I am sure they will make the most of it.

“It is a good chance for James, Sam and Adam to work on their game in the winter with the England set-up and hopefully play some competitive cricket.

“The call-ups are a great testament to our backroom staff for the first team and the Academy.”

The England squad will use the Sri Lanka series to prepare for Cricket World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.

Led by former England head coach Andy Flower, the EPP squad will travel to Sri Lanka for a three-week camp for spin bowlers and batters ahead of selection for a January Lions tour to South Africa.

The best players from the EPP are then selected for the England Lions Team to tour South Africa early next year.

England Lions will play two four-day Test matches and five 50-over matches against South Africa A in January and February 2015, with their first warm-up match starting on January 5.

ECB performance director David Parsons said: "The Lions tour to South Africa will be an excellent opportunity to take on some very tough opposition in a challenging environment.

"It will also offer us an opportunity to test the players at the very highest level and allow the players to ultimately learn a great deal from the trip. We look forward to visiting South Africa early next year."
