Ferley helps spin Kent to the brink of promotion

PATIENCE and bowling at the right speed was the key to Kent“s 10-wicket success over Middlesex at Uxbridge on Saturday according to a tired, yet delighted left-arm spinner Rob Ferley.
The fit-again spinner bagged three for 73 and four wickets in the match over all as Kent enforced the follow-on and finally winkled the hosts out for 326 in their second innings.
Having seen openers Rob Key and Sam Northeast polish off the win in style, Ferley said: “Every one“s a little bit tired, but we“ve got another important game on Sunday back at St Lawrence so we“ll have to dust ourselves down, have a quick beer to celebrate and get on with it.
“The pitch here was just like one of the old wickets at The Mote in Maidstone where, as we know, it“s sometimes difficult to bowl sides out.
“It was low and skiddy, but the occasional one would grip and bounce a bit, so I bowled as quickly as I possibly could throughout my spell. That made life a bit tricky for Geraint behind the stumps, but it did the trick.
“We knew that big runs on the board would be important here and for the first time this season we cashed in.
“We knew it would be hard work bowling them out twice, but Middlesex have a pretty inexperienced top six so we kept going in the knowledge that is we got one wicket two or three others might follow quickly. And that“s how it panned out.”
Spitfires now head back to St Lawrence where they take on the Warwickshire Bears in a crucial NatWest Pro40 clash on Sunday starting at 12.45pm.
