Spitfires secure away quarter-final in One-Day Cup

Kent Spitfires’ winning run came to an end as Essex Eagles won at Chelmsford in the final group game in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

The Spitfires reached the knockout stages for a fourth year in the last five and finished third in the South Group to secure a away quarter-final against the second-placed North Group team on Thursday 14 June.

Sean Dickson hit his eighth one-day half century in a 83-run stand with Alex Blake (41) but Kent lost regular wickets with England Lions seamer Porter (4/37) the pick of the Eagles attack.

After winning the toss and electing to field first, the visitors made early in-roads with Calum Haggett and Darren Stevens (1/37) striking either side of Matt Henry’s 50th Kent wicket in his 12th match for the club to reduce the hosts to 82-3 in 20 overs.

Seamers Mitch Claydon, Matt Henry and Calum Haggett took two wickets each but the Spitfires conceded 122 in the last 10 overs with Dan Lawrence (115) and Ravi Bopara (125) adding 187 runs for the fourth wicket on the way to 337 for seven.
