Key win for Kent Spitfires as they outclass Essex Eagles in home t20

Kent 156-2 beat Essex 153-8 by eight wickets

Kent eased their way to an eight wicket win over Essex Eagles, thanks to superb batting from captain, Rob Key (75) and Azhar Mahmood (50 not out), with 13 balls to spare.

Kent won the toss and elected to bat second. Essex made 153 for 8, with Adam Ball in good form, taking 2 for 28.

Joe Denly (20) and Key put on 55 for the first wicket, followed by Key and Mahmood’s solid partnership of 97 off 11 overs. Having hit nine fours in his innings, Key received a standing ovation from the 4,000 strong crowd at the floodlitSt Lawrence Ground as he left the field, having been run out with just two runs needed for victory.

A crucial win for Kent Spitfires, which sees them move up the South Group table into joint third position, alongside Sussex. On Sunday afternoon, Kent Spitfires face Glamorgan Dragons at the St Lawrence Ground; another crucial match for Kent Spitfires as they strive for a place in the Friends Life t20 quarter finals.
