Walker values support

Head Coach Matt Walker has been speaking about our start to the Vitality Blast and the value a home crowd can bring going into tight contests.

“Our opening two games have shown the quality and depth of our squad, with everyone putting their hand up at key moments to secure the wins.

“It was fantastic to see five players make their Vitality Blast debuts for Kent in the game vs Somerset and in particular, Ollie Robinson’s mature half century was a pleasure to watch.

“Our bowling performance was outstanding and Imran Qayyum’s brilliant five-fer will give him great confidence for the rest of the competition. I know how excited the crowd were to see Mohammad Nabi for the first time and we all got a taste of the explosiveness and skill in a quick fire 34.

“On Sunday away to Hampshire, Alex Blake also powered to 57 off 38 balls, with huge back-to-back sixes, demonstrating his ability to win us games from extremely tight positions.

“It was a gritty performance which saw our bowling unit stand up again superbly.

“What’s impressed me from last weekend, is that we have showed that we can be a threat with both the bat and the ball. This makes us a difficult team to face in this competition.

“With so many players putting in great performances, it allows everyone to play with confidence and freedom, which stands us in good stead for the rest of the season.

“On behalf of the team, I want to thank everyone for their unwavering support. I know the lads were spurred on by the support against Somerset last week and we value that backing to help get us over that line.

“Enjoy the evening and let’s once again make the atmosphere electric here at The Spitfire Ground.

Cheers!
