Second XI sign off in style

In their final Championship match of the season, Kent Second XI gave an impressive performance to gain a big win over Gloucestershire at Bath, by 131 runs.

It was a match that included two sporting declarations after the second day’s play had been completely washed out because of heavy rain.

Set 333 to win in a day’s play, Gloucestershire were bowled out for just 201, despite a remarkable performance from wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick, who scored a defiant 122 not out with 13 fours and two sixes.

Kent’s side included first team stars Harry Podmore, Matt Milnes, and Ollie Rayner, all getting match practice for the upcoming Specsavers County Championship match against Essex starting on Sunday.

Rayner was the most successful taking 3 for 37 and Kent Academy student Hugh Scott took 3 for 31.

Kent had declared their first innings on 355/6, Sean Dickson hitting 91 with 12 fours and three sixes, Harry Podmore 50, and Tim Rouse (no relation to Adam) 51.

Gloucestershire declared their first innings on 23/1 and Kent forfeited their second innings declaring on 0/0, to set the home side a challenging target which they fell well short of in the end despite Roderick’s heroics.
