Match Preview: Essex Eagles vs. Kent Spitfires

The Spitfires head to Chelmsford for the final Vitality Blast South Group match of this season against the Essex Eagles.

Both sides need the victory to secure a place in the quarter finals of the competition, with the Spitfires now on 14 points and four teams below them, including the Essex Eagles, on 13.

Kent narrowly missed out to Gloucestershire yesterday evening by five runs, despite a partnership of 122 runs from 68 balls between captain Sam Billings and overseas star Faf du Plessis. A century from Michael Klinger helped secured the win for the visitors.

Essex defeated Surrey yesterday evening, by 19 runs, at the Kia Oval. A fifth wicket stand of 117 runs between Ravi Bopara (70*) and Ryan ten Doeschate (55*) was backed up by four wickets from Jamie Porter.

Kent can still finish second in the group and earn a home quarter final, providing they win big against the Eagles tonight and Gloucestershire suffer a defeat to table-toppers Sussex Sharks at Hove.

There’s less than one month to go until the biggest night of the year – the Spitfire Kent Cricket Awards!
