Match Preview: Surrey vs. Kent Spitfires

The Kia Oval will be the venue for Kent Spitfires’ final Vitality Blast group match as they take on their fiercest and oldest rivals, Surrey.

The two sides meet after both have confirmed their places in the Quarter Finals of this year’s competition; Kent secured their berth by defeating Essex Eagles by four wickets at The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence yesterday.

Jack Leaning’s 55 not out helped drag Kent back into the match, and needing nine runs to win from the final over, a target the Spitfires could not meet against Middlesex, Grant Stewart’s maximum saw Kent over the line to secure qualification.

Spitfires openers Daniel Bell-Drummond (2nd) & Zak Crawley (5th) are both in the Top Five of The PCA’s Vitality Blast MVP ranking and have scored over 300 runs apiece for Kent so far in the competition, Bell-Drummond’s 12 sixes the most maximums by any player in the Vitality Blast this season.

Fred Klaassen’s 3/36 against Essex Eagles takes the Dutch international onto 13 wickets in the tournament to date, at an average of 24.38.

Group leaders Surrey boast the current Blast MVP Will Jacks amongst their ranks, alongside their second top run scorer Laurie Evans and top wicket taker, Daniel Moriarty. Surrey’s only defeat in the group stage came against Kent Spitfires at The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence.

Kent Spitfires’ squad is unchanged from Friday’s win over Essex Eagles.

This match will be shown live on Sky Sports Cricket (Channel 404) from 12:55 on Sunday afternoon, with play commencing at 13:00. There will therefore be no live stream available.

Live updates will also be provided via Kent Cricket’s official Twitter account.
