As a youngster, every Englishman dreams of playing for England. Some would like to follow Rob Key or Geraint Jones and be an international cricketer while others would prefer to follow David Beckham or John Terry and be an England football player.

It“s exactly the same for Australians. They dream of playing for their country and wearing the famous baggy green cap. The cap is synonymous with Australian cricket and you can see a series of them this weekend, modelled by your favourite Aussie cricketers, here at Canterbury.

As a Club, we are delighted to be welcoming Australia to the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury. The last time they were here, 30 June 2005, they beat Bangladesh by six-wickets in the Nat West Series. Former Kent overseas player Andrew Symonds hit an unbeaten 42 to help Australia through to victory.

Now the Aussies are back for one of the most important fixtures on their 2009 Ashes itinerary. Ricky Ponting“s men will be looking for the ideal practice ahead of the crucial fifth Ashes Test with England at the Oval. All of the stars from ‘down under“ will be looking for a fitness boost and to sharpen their match skills – right on your doorstep.

Ashes tickets sold out ages ago but tickets are still available for the big Tour match and you can watch the likes of Ponting, Mike Hussey, Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson here in Kent.

It“s free for members and keenly priced for non-members. Come along on either day and it will cost you the following:

£18 for adults
£12 for senior citizens
£6 for juniors

Australia Team Manager Steve Bernard (pictured on the Lord“s balcony – on the right of the picture) is very much looking forward to his return to Canterbury: “The boys have fond memories of our time in Kent. Some of them will experience a trip to Canterbury for the first time but we are always made to feel welcome here and have positive memories from our last game in 2005. We beat Bangladesh in the Nat West Series with Michael Clarke and Andrew Symonds both scoring runs to see us home.

“We are looking forward to this two-day game against the England Lions. We haven“t selected our side as yet but I expect it to be very strong as it will allow us a good tune-up ahead of the crucial fifth Ashes Test.”
