Edwards takes two on rain restricted second day in Northants

Tuesday 11th August 2009

KENT and Northants were left largely frustrated as only 32 overs were possible on the second day of the LV County Championship match, between the two sides, at Wantage Road because of rain.

Play did not get underway in Northampton until after tea but it was Kent who enjoyed the better of the action on the second day.

Resuming on 38-1, Northants slumped to 56-3 with two wickets for Phil Edwards (pictured). The seam bowler picked up the scalps of Rob White and former Kent wicketkeeper Niall O’Brien.

South African Riki Wessels stood firm, with an unbeaten 47, but Kent are still in a good position with Northants 147-5 – still 97 behind – and early inroads will be the main aim when play resumes on day three.
