Adam Ball hits unbeaten 152 in Second XI Trophy win

Adam Ball smashed an unbeaten 152 as Kent won a thrilling Second XI Trophy match at The County Ground, Beckenham.

The 24-year-old right-hander hit 13 fours and four sixes in a superb 134-ball knock.

He added 185 for the second wicket with Calum Haggett, who scored a more patient 88 off 109 balls to build the platform for Ball to accelerate in the late overs.

On-loan Joe Weatherley fell for 13 before 19-year-old Whitstable batsman Kai Appleby impressed again with a quick-fire 39 off 26 balls.

In reply, Gloucestershire look on course for victory with a century opening stand between Zimbabwe-born Brendan Gilmour and former England Under-19 opener Miles Hammond.

The left-handers look in control until seamer Charlie Hartley removed both men.

Calum Haggett picked up wickets in successive balls before highly-rated batsman George Hankins rebuilt with 97 before rain delayed the chase and meant a revised Duckworth-Lewis-Stern target on resumption.

Haggett ran out Hankins as Kent’s seamers closed out a fine five-run win.

Kent: Adam Ball (c), Zak Crawley, Joe Weatherley, Calum Haggett, Geremy Fatouros, Kai Appleby, Oliver Robinson (wk), Charlie Hartley, Matt Hunn, Ivan Thomas, Jan Gray.
