Adam Riley working his way back to fitness

Thursday 4th May 2017

Kent spinner Adam Riley is looking for a change of fortune after injury prevented him for playing first XI cricket for much of the last two seasons, writes Peter Burrowes.

He is looking to get back to the kind of form he produced in 2014 when he took 60 wickets and played for England Lions.

Adam tore a muscle in his side last May playing for Kent against Gloucestershire and was sidelined for three months in a period that he described as “very frustrating”.

The 25-year-old Sidcup-born bowler said: “The injury lasted much longer than anticipated which was disappointing.

“I was back bowling on the FGS Plant Tour of the West Indies earlier this year and got some overs in but tweaked the injury again in pre-season training.”

Adam has been working his way back to full fitness with second XI coach Min Patel and Jack Birkenshaw, the former England, Yorkshire and Leicestershire off-spinner, lending a hand.

“As well as the Kent coaches, Jack has come down to Canterbury to give me advice, net practice and had a fresh look at my action.

“I am feeling much happier with the way I am bowling now. I want to kick on again and get back in the team but I am not rushing things.”
