Beaumont returns to Sydney Thunder for WBBL|08

Kent Women Captain Tammy Beaumont will return to Sydney Thunder in the Weber Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) competition for 2022/23.

The right-hander returns for WBBL|08 after winning the competition two seasons ago for the Thunder franchise.

As per all previous seasons, WBBL|08 will feature a 56-match double round-robin beginning on 13 October, followed by a finals series featuring the top four qualifiers. Sydney Thunder will play their home matches at Canberra’s Manuka Oval & the North Sydney Oval.

Previously with the Adelaide Strikers & Melbourne Renegades in earlier editions of the T20 tournament, Beaumont has played 56 WBBL matches in her career so far, scoring over 1,000 runs.

The England Women batter will be joined at the competition by fellow English stars Alice Capsey (Melbourne Stars), Issy Wong (Hobart Hurricanes), Danni Wyatt (Brisbane Heat) & Sophie Ecclestone (Sydney Sixers), who will be coached by Kent & England legend Charlotte Edwards.

On re-joining the Thunder for WBBL|08, Beaumont said: “I’ve obviously got brilliant memories of 2020.

“Not only did we win the competition, but the group of girls I got to spend day-in, day-out with, I just thought the camaraderie and team spirit was excellent.

“They made me feel so welcome. But, I’m sure there won’t be quite as many pranks as there was in the Sydney hub with [England skipper] Heather Knight losing her mattress a couple of times! An amazing experience, such fond memories.

“I had the best six weeks, even though it was a COVID bubble in the Sydney hub. I thought it was a great team to be a part of – a really good set up – and it’s an exciting opportunity for me to come back and play for the Thunder again.”

The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence will once again host a full England Women’s One-Day International (WODI) match in 2022, with a Royal London WODI against India under the lights in Canterbury on Wednesday, 21 September.
