Thursday 6th October 2011

Now the cricket season’s done and dusted I’m heading up to Scotland for a golfing holiday. It’s been a tough season and an important year at the Club with the redevelopment going on. We’re pleased with the new facilities and the ground’s looking good.

There’s been a lot of news coming out from the Club in the last couple of weeks. I’m sorry to see Jarra and Jo go, it was a privilege to witness such class first hand, but it’s a personal decision, they will be missed and I wish them all the best for the future. I’d also like to thank Farbs and wish him all the best for the future.

A few things have been said in the press out of context (The Cricketer – Oct 2011). I’m very happy to be staying at Kent. Joining Kent resurrected my career six years ago and I do not want to leave. Kent is where my heart is and I want to stay here for the remainder of my career. We have a learning curve, and we need to now sign some bowlers, but we have some great youngsters coming through the Club and support from more experienced players. I have one hundred percent confidence in the Club bringing in the right people to move forward and win competitions. I know the Club just confirmed some of the youngsters who have now signed contracts, including Pies and Riley and I’m sure there’s more news to come.

Over the winter I’ll be busy, heading over to Hong Kong for the KARP Group Hong Kong Sixes competition at the end of October. That’s always a good experience and I’m looking forward to it. I’m also involved in some coaching at the Academy and working on other plans so I’ll keep you posted. I’m on Twitter now and need a few more followers.

The end of season Club Awards Night was a good way to end the season, though quite a few of us had sore heads from Keysy’s Benefit dinner the night before. It was good to see supporters there as well as the sponsors and others. All the better that I won the Batsman of the Year Award ahead of Jo. It was a good night and thanks to the supporters who took part in the Facebook Caption Competition it was a good laugh. Thanks also to everyone who voted for me as Player of the Year. Azhar managed to beat me but we’ll see what happens next year!

Thanks for all the support this year,

Darren
