CB40: It’s kids for a quid on Sunday v Leicestershire

Friday 6th August 2010

Kent Spitfires v Leicestershire Foxes
Clydesdale Bank 40
Sunday, 8 August 2010 – 1.45pm
St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury

Kent finish Canterbury Cricket Week with a CB40 meeting against the Leicestershire Foxes at the St Lawrence Ground.

Both sides need the points as they look to rise up Group C and make a play for a final place. The Spitfires sit third from bottom with the Foxes a place below them so there is still much to play for.

Last time out Kent stumbled to a narrow two-run defeat at the hands of the Hampshire Royals at Canterbury. The visitors batted first and posted 238 for seven. England t20 opener Michael Lumb made fifty with James Vince (49) and former Kent batsman Michael Carberry (46) also chipping in. For Kent, James Tredwell and Matt Coles took three wickets apiece. The home side’s reply was anchored by Joe Denly, as he batted through for an unbeaten 102, but despite help from Martin van Jaarsveld (73), Kent fell just short of the victory target. Dominic Cork took 3-56 for the Royals.

The Foxes also suffered defeat in their last outing, falling by 25 runs to runaway leaders Warwickshire. The Bears batted first and 102 from opener Neil Carter powered them to a daunting 272 for eight. James Taylor replied with a century of his own for the Foxes but in the end Carter, Boyd Rankin and Keith Barker took two wickets each to restrict Leicester to 247 for six as the Bears took glory. Both sides will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday.
