Claydon wicket and Hunn catch for Newcastle City in New South Wales

The Spitfire Player's Player of the Year Mitch Claydon took a wicket for Newcastle City as a trio of Kent players were in action in New South Wales.

The City skipper was joined by Matt Hunn and Ben Harmison, while Charlie Hartley sat out the First Grade game with a stiff back.

Cardiff-Boolaroo were Newcastle's opponents at their Learmonth Park home and the visitors won the toss and batted first.

Claydon opened the bowling and took 1-27 off 12 overs, including three maidens before bringing Hunn into the attack.

The 20-year-old's 11 overs went for 32 runs but could not get the break-through after taking four wickets on debut last week against title-chasing Merewether.

Cardiff ended the day on 281 for eight off 90 overs with day two scheduled for next Saturday.
