Bromley Primary Schools Skills Festival

Saturday 4th February 2023

On Thursday 2nd February, 120 cricketers from Bromley primary schools gathered at The County Ground, Beckenham to take part in a vibrant, energetic and fun Cricket Skills Festival which proved to be a great success!

“…an enormous thank you for an excellent event today. The children came away absolutely buzzing from it and had a wonderful time so thank you to you and your team.”
Raglan Primary School

Players challenged themselves through several games that involved a host of skills including catching, throwing, fielding, ball striking and teamwork with popular games including the speed gun challenges as well as a Visually Impaired (VI) assault course, which helped the players experience the world of VI Cricket.

The Festival was organised by our Community Coach, Iain Ager, with much appreciated assistance from Lyn Murphy (Hayes CC) and Kelly Warren (Sidcup CC).

After the event, Iain said:

“We wanted to give our young players a chance to use their cricket skills at a time of year when opportunities are usually thin on the ground. To see over one hundred of them coming together, having fun and competing was extremely rewarding and a real testament to the importance of our sport in Bromley’s schools. It’s wonderful to see so many Year 5 and 6 girls and boys enjoying the game and our thanks have to go to the teachers, assistants coaches, guardians and parents who make the efforts necessary to get the players to these events.”

The Skills Festival was the first event of 2023 which promises to be a great year for Bromley Primary School Cricket with the following also in the calendar:

  • The inaugural Bromley Primary Schools Cricket Championship which is being run in partnership with Eltham College
  • The School Games Dynamos Competitions on 18th and 23rd May
  • Kent Cricket Schools Day Out at the Spitfire Ground on Monday the 12th June
  • A second Skills Festival planned towards the end of the year
