Disability Cricket – Development Cricket Festival

Friday 26th May 2023

On 14th May a combined team comprising of Current Super 9s captain Ben Cox and players from our Super 1s cricket hubs in Bromley, Bexley and Folkestone took part in a competition against Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex. Buxted Park CC were the generous hosts and the event was a great success. The Kent side played against Hampshire and Surrey, two strong and experienced teams. For most of the Kent players this was their first experience of playing on a full-sized cricket ground and they stuck to their, at times challenging, task against good players really well throughout both games.

Development festivals are played as an 8-a-side pairs format with each pair facing 4 overs each regardless of the number of dismissals so all batters are able to spend the same time at the crease and face different bowlers. The bowling is equally shared around so all can benefit and learn from playing. Both Kent games ended in a win for the opposition but the improvements and learning for the players were clearly seen and all players enjoyed the day and the experience. Our thanks go to Sussex Cricket Foundation for organising the event. Our next festival is in June in Hampshire.
