Kent Cricket & Cohesion Plus celebrate Eid al-Fitr in Gravesend

On Sunday 4 June, Kent Cricket once again teamed up with Cohesion Plus to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with the Islamic community in Gravesend.
Muslims celebrate Eid because it represents the end of a month-long fasting of Ramadan. At the event there were fairground rides, food stalls, face painting, live music and much more. Kent Cricket, with the help of Cohesion Plus and Gravesend Cricket Club volunteers, provided cricket coaching sessions through the day as part of the festival held at Fort Gardens in Gravesend.
Gurvinder Sandher MBE, DL & Artistic Director of Cohesion Plus, said: “We are delighted to be working with Kent Cricket to provide opportunities for young people from Gravesend to get involved in cricket.
“It was so great to see cricket represented in the Eid Community Mela, and the feedback has been very positive. I am confident this will be the springboard from which further opportunities will arise not just to play but also coach and spectate.
“I cannot thank colleagues at Kent Cricket enough for working with us and community partners. I hope that this is the start of a long-term partnership which will benefit the diverse cricket communities of Kent over the coming months and years.”
The event was a great success as the sun shone all day and over 1500 people visited the celebrations at Fort Gardens in Gravesend.
Chief Executive Officer Simon Storey, commented: ” We working hard to provide more and more opportunities for communities across Kent to play cricket. Following the recent success of our cricket programme delivered at the Vaisakhi celebrations at the Gurdwara in Gravesend, we were delighted to be able to provide a similar programme of cricket at the Eid Community Mela.
