Cook off at Nandoís – Raising money for Demelza

Thursday 2nd September 2010

The 8th September will see four Kent players swapping their bats for aprons from 7:30pm at Nando“s in Canterbury. Kent captain Rob Key, wicketkeeper Geraint Jones, fast bowler Simon Cook plus England U19 batsman Sam Northeast will be there on the night to cook, host and serve PERi-feasts to the general public. The event has been organised to raise money for Demelza Hospice Care for Children.

Donna Wells, Corporate Fundraising Manager said: “We are so grateful to have Nando“s and Kent County Cricket Club support us in this way. It looks like an exciting and fun event and we hope the local community will get behind it and enjoy having their dinner served by some local sports stars.”

Demelza Hospice Care for Children (www.demelza.org.uk) supports over 600 life-limited children and their families across South East London, East Sussex, and Kent. Demelza has two hospices, one in Eltham (Greenwich) and one in Sittingbourne (Kent) as well as a community nursing team based in East Sussex.

Eating is not the only thing on the menu that evening. There will be a raffle drawn at the end of their shift; with prizes of free Nando“s and a bat signed by the entire first team. The boys will be happy to take pictures and sign autographs.

Kent captain Rob Key (pictured)said: “The players and I are pleased to get involved in this event as we are raising money for our shirt partners, Demelza Hospice Care for Children. We are all looking forward to signing some autographs and cooking up some chicken at Nando“s!”

Mark Betts the Managing Director of Nando“s Kent region says: “Nando“s Kent has over the last six months been building relationships in support of local community activities. Our Canterbury restaurant has been working closely with Kent Cricket and through this association we have been introduced to Demelza Hospice. The Demelza Charity fits perfectly with the Kent vision of giving back to others and raising awareness for good causes. I can“t wait to see the lads in aprons working the grills. The evening will be fun so all are welcome.”
