Darren Stevens defeated on Comilla Victorians debut in BPL

Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens tasted defeat on his debut for Comilla Victorians against Dhaka Dynamites in Mirpur.

Stevens, who won the tournament twice with Dhaka Gladiators in 2012 and 2013, scored five as they reached 110 for eight under the floodlights at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.

The 39-year-old survived a couple of loud LBW appeals before he was run out attempting a single, leaving the Victorians on 36-5.

The middle order staged a comeback after Dhaka’s seamers did the early damage but eight overs of spin from Pakistan Test star Yasir Shah and Bangladesh international Mosharraf Hussain cost just 29 runs really restricted the scoring.

The opponents fielded a strong side which included Surrey’s Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara and Essex all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate.

Chasing 111 to win, Stevens did not bowl as Dhaka secured a six-wicket win with four balls to spare.
