Downton praises togetherness

Vitality Blast cricket comes back to Canterbury after a period of away matches and our home game against Hampshire at Beckenham.

Last time we played at The Spitfire Ground, St. Lawrence, it was fantastic to feel the atmosphere created by the sell out crowd who come to support us against the Essex Eagles. It definitely lifted the team as they delivered another terrific performance to come out winners by 22 runs.

A vibrant, partisan home crowd is definitely a motivator for everyone here and it’s brilliant that we can go into any home match knowing we will be so well supported.

The often-used cliché of the “twelfth man” in sport is definitely applicable when we are at home.

A lot of work has gone into improving your experience at the ground on match days, and whilst there is always more to do, I hope that is starting to come through.

Our good start to the Vitality Blast is down to the hard work put in by everyone in the dressing room and the culture that Matt Walker and our captain Sam Billings have created.

Daniel Bell-Drummond has lead the team really well in Sam’s absence and the bowling unit has performed brilliantly in the early matches.

After two tough away trips where we did not come back with the results we wanted and a frustrating washout, we’re fully focussed on gaining a quarter final berth in this tournament to build upon all the hard work being put in on and off the field here.
