Duo hit 50s in Academy opener

Opener Harsh Kumar and all-rounder Isaac Dilkes hit half-centuries as Kent Cricket Academy lost their opening fixture against Surrey at Polo Farm.

The visitors won the toss and invited Kent to bat first with 18-year-old Kumar recovering from the regular loss of partners to team up with Broadstairs all-rounder Dilkes to share a 48-run stand.

Tailend resistance from Canterbury duo Bradley Goldsack (24) and Tom Davis (27) and Taylor Chandler of Chestfield (26) pushed Kent to 236-9.

In reply, Surrey started strongly before Chandler (2/62), Hartley left-armer Mark McLean (3/35) and a Joe Gordon run-out provided the breakthroughs before the visitors reached the target with 2.2 overs to spare.
