Former Kent ‘keeper Sid O’Linn dies

Former Kent and South Africa wicketkeeper Sid O'Linn has died at the age of 89.

The left-handed batsman scored 8 fifties and a century in 27 appearances for Kent between 1951 and 1954 and played seven Tests for his country in 1960-62.

The consumate sportsman served as a deputy to the great gloveman Godfrey Evans and also turned for Charlton Athletic FC during his stint in the UK.

At Kent, he joined the club after impressing in the second XI and winning his second XI cap in 1951 before returning to his homeland to represent Transvaal for nine seasons.

He scored four first-class centuries in his career and was named South African Cricket Annual Cricketer of the Year in 1960.

He died at Cape Town on Sunday.
