Second XI Championship: Kent 2nd XI 360 v Surrey 2nd XI 189 & 177-7

A big Ben Harmison century capped a strong comeback for the all-rounder as his innings of 160 built a big lead on day two of the opening Second XI Championship match at Maidstone.

The 29-year-old Northumbrian smashed 20 boundaries on his first knock after missing pre-season training with a knee injury.

He shepherded the middle and lower order well after Sean Dickson departed for 66, closing a stand of 118.

Dan Smith (25), Miles Richardson (10 not out) and Imran Qayyum (11) showed good grit to frustrate the Surrey attack and build a lead of 171.

Kent's bowling unit backed up the batting with some good bowling: Smith capped a good all-round display with 3/26 and Qayyum added another two scalps before the close.

Matt Hunn and Hugh Bernard grabbed a wicket each as Kent threatened to wrap up an innings win within two days.

A 59-run stand between Chris Green and Matthew Teale guided the visitors to a slender lead of six runs at stumps going into Friday's final day.
