ICC Awards 2011: Short-lists Announced at the St Lawrence Ground

LG ICC Award Nominees Include; Charlotte Edwards, Lydia Greenway and Wahab Riaz

The Chairman of the LG ICC Awards selection panel, Clive Lloyd, presented a media conference at the St Lawrence Ground on Friday 26th August, announcing the short-lists for the LG ICC Awards 2011. The conference was held in the newly refurbished Chiesman Pavilion, and included the announcement of the ICC Test Team of the Year 2011.

Kent County Cricket Club is delighted to confirm that Charlotte Edwards, Lydia Greenway and Wahab Riaz have all received nominations. Charlotte Edwards and Lydia Greenway have received nominations for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, while Wahab Riaz has been nominated for ICC Emerging Player of the Year.

Based on the period between 11 August 2010 and 3 August 2011, the LG ICC Awards 2011 – presented in association with the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA), take into account performances by players and officials in a remarkable period for the game.

The period includes high-profile events suchas the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the ICC Intercontinental Cup, numerous Pepsi ICC World Cricket Leagues and several bilateral Test and ODI series.

The LG ICC Awards ceremony is now in its eighth year and this year it will be held in London on 12 September. Previous ceremonies were held in London (2004), Sydney (2005), Mumbai (2006), Johannesburg (2007 and 2009), Dubai (2008) and Bengaluru 2010.

Chairman of the LG ICC Awards selection panel, Clive Lloyd, said: “The selection of this year’s Test team was a difficult one with so many worthy candidates available to fill just 12 places. The team has a formidable line-up that bats well down the order and has bowlers with the ability and form to dismiss any opposition twice on any surface.

“In the panel’s expert opinion, it has selected the best team based on performances over the past 12 months.”
