Jimmy Adams: We support Rob Key 100 per cent

Kent head coach Jimmy Adams has praised the bravery of captain Rob Key's decision to step away from first XI cricket.

The former West Indies Test star said: "It’s a tough decision for any cricketer to take, let alone the captain of the side, but in my experience Keysy is a very self-aware young man and when he said he felt he needed a bit of time out of the first team environment, I think it was right for us to respect that.

"He wants to get his batting right and to contribute with the bat but feels there are a few issues he needs to go and work on. He’s made that decision and we’ll support him 100 per cent.

"Rob will get to play some Second XI matches at some point and will probably make use of our practice facilities up at Polo Farm.

"He has an individualistic batting technique, but in this case I don’t feel there’s much of a technical issue; it’s more a case of building up confidence and getting his mind right.

"As far as I’m concerned his technique is strong enough to score runs for many more years to come.

"Sam Northeast will continue to lead the side until Rob returns, so he will have a great opportunity to prove to himself across different formats."
