Batsman Joe Denly will spend part of the winter Down Under playing for Sydney Cricket Club ahead of the 2017 season.

The 30-year-old Canterbury-born right-hander made his debut on Sunday in a T20 double-header against Eastern Suburbs and Newcastle DCA.

In the first match, Denly smashed 35 not out off 17 balls to seal a ten-wicket win after claiming a run out and conceding 15 runs in two overs in leg spin.

Among his teammates is Middlesex’s Australian-born leg-spinner Nathan Sowter.

He carried his bat again in the second match as Sydney won by seven wickets.

Denly hit three fours and five sixes on his way to 62 not out off 36 balls.

Earlier, he took 1/30 with the ball as Sydney restricted Newcastle to 179 for five.
