Jones top scores in Spitfires T20 win

Saturday 30th May 2009

KENTwicketkeeper Geraint Jones says playing with a ‘clear mind“ is helping him achieve great things with the bat this season. The popular gloveman top-scored with a rapid 56 as The Spitfires achieved a five-wicket success over The Sussex Sharks at Canterbury on Sunday afternoon.

Jones hit five fours and three towering sixes during his 39-ball knock and laid the platform for a third win out of four T20 matches. Speaking to the official website after the game, Jones said: ‘It“s going nicely for me at the moment. During the close season I worked hard on getting into a still position and worked out my best scoring shots. I“m batting with a clear mind and scoring well so long may it continue.“

After scoring a personal best of 133 against Glamorgan, in the LV County Championship, earlier this season, Jones has quickly adapted to the shorter form of the game and says Twenty20 is completely different to all other forms of the game: ‘T20 is great fun and a much more attacking game. You have to score off every ball and the pressure is constantly on but we are playing some great cricket, as a side, and enjoying the matches coming thick and fast.“

The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow when they take on The Essex Eagles at Chelmsford. The game gets underway at seven o“clock.
