Kent Cricket League Round-Up: Sandwich top table by one point

A Sandwich side that included Kent’s ‘keeper-batter Jordan Cox, and Academy scholar Joe Gordon, moved to the top of the Premier League with a 57 run victory away to newly promoted Bickley Park.

Tom Chapman scored 36 in the Sandwich innings of 172 all out in 48.2 overs, Elliot Hooper 3 for 22, Max Luckett 3 for 31.

The visitors then dismissed the home side for 115 in 32.5 overs, Hooper 64, Alex Smith 4 for 27, Ben Smith 3 for 38.

Sandwich have a one point advantage over Tunbridge Wells, who were four wicket winners at the other newly promoted side Bromley.

Kent off-spinner Hamid Qadri scored 30 for the home side and Lewis Hickford 36 in their 190 for 8. Another Kent player, all-rounder Marcus O’Riordan took 1 for 27 and Max Waller 3 for 50 for Wells, who reached their victory total 191 for 6 off 40.1 overs, Chris Williams hitting an impressive 91. Archie Ramanathan took 4 for 57 and Qadri conceded 32 runs off his six overs.

Former Kent quick Ivan Thomas took 2 for 26 as Blackheath beat Beckenham at the Rectory Field by eight wickets.

The visitors were bowled out for 177, Johan Malcolm 63, Roy Mukherjee 3 for 11, Tanwar Sakanda 3 for 35. An excellent 71 not out by Dipayen Paul saw Heath comfortably home 181 for 2,  from 33.4.

Sean Evans 98 not out, Calum Basey 74, and 26 from former Kent all-rounder Adam Ball, contributed to Bexley’s big score, 253 for 3, in their 70 run victory away to Sevenoaks Vine. The home side were bowled out for 183, John Bowden 39, Kent Academy student, Jas Singh 2 for 39, Bexley captain and former Kent spinner Adam Riley 2 for 24.

Holmesdale beat Lordswood by five wickets, 241 for 5, replying to the visitors 240 for 9, Ed Taylor 74, Jack Laraman 73 saw Lordswood to their useful total, but Holmesdale won with two and a half overs to spare, Will McDowell 67. Scottish international Callum MacLeod 3 for 46 and former Kent Academy student Hugh Scott, chipped in with a wicket.

Kent’s one day batting specialist Alex Blake was in good form for First Division Hayes scoring 62 in their 243 for 9, beating The Mote by 56 runs at home. Miquel Barbosa scored 68 in the Hayes innings, Matt White 4 for 39. Former Kent Second XI player, Will MacVicar, took 3 for 26 helping bowl The Mote out for 187, Phil Apps 39.

There was a six wicket victory for Canterbury at Polo Farm against Linden Park, who were 211 for 9 at the close of their innings. Rashen Jayatissa 57, Max Campbell 46. Ollie Hills took 2 for 19 and Kent Second XI player Isaac Dilkes 2 for 37. Dilkes then went on to score 43 for Canterbury, along with Jarryd Taig 61, to see the home side to victory 215 for 4, with three balls to spare.
