Kent draw with Oxford

Kent got some much needed match practice on Friday as their three day game with Oxford MCCU inevitably ended in a draw.

Having lost the second day’s play to the weather, Oxford MCCU resumed on 50 for 2 and having lost the morning session to a damp pitch at The Parks, the home side went on to make 193 for 7 before the two captains shook hands and called the game a draw.

Ben Williams and Charlie Walker carried on where they left off on Wednesday evening as they went on to post a century partnership as Kent rotated their bowlers looking for an early breakthrough.

Ben Harmison finally broke the partnership and picked up his first wicket in a Kent shirt as Walker went for 64, picking out Dan Masters in the field .

It was then down to Alex Blake to pick up three quick wickets as he accounted for Ben Stubbings, Freddie John and Williams within the space of four overs to see the home side slip from 151 for 3 to 164 for 6.

After Williams’ dismissal, Oxford’s run rate dried right up and some accurate bowling from Kent put the pressure on Daniel Pascoe and Bilal Ashfaq with the latter finally succumbing to Sam Northeast for just 6 off 57 balls.

That prompted a decision to call time on the game with Kent happy to have got some overs under their belts in the less than spring like weather.

From here, Kent face Yorkshire yet again at Headingley with the first of their CB40 games of the season on Sunday with play scheduled to start at 1:45pm.
