Kent gain maximum bowling bonus points on day one

Kent gained maximum bowling bonus points on day one of the Specsavers County Championship match against Gloucestershire at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

Mitch Claydon and Darren Stevens struck twice with the new ball to reduce the visitors to 14/4 before the Westcountrymen fought back through Hamish Marshall’s 112 and a Jack Taylor half-century.

Calum Haggett (2/60) and Matt Hunn (1/79) backed up the new-ball pair on their return to first team action but stout middle-order resistance held up Kent’s bid to dismiss Gloucestershire.

Marshall and teenager George Hankins (45) added 87 either side of lunch before cameos from Noema-Barnett (24), Craig Miles (20) and David Payne (22) helped Glos gain batting bonus points after Kent’s super start.

With Adam Riley withdrawn with a niggle after five overs, Kent’s quartet of seamers had pick up the workload on a sunny afternoon at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.

Darren Stevens and Mitch Claydon each picked up a third scalp before the close before the new ball was taken: Stevens removed Taylor caught and bowled before a Claydon bouncer was shouldered by Marshall to Tom Latham at second slip.
